About N’Dene Riley

My name is N’Dene Riley. I am a proud Parrdarrama Pungenna and Six Rivers Aboriginal woman, a qualified primary school teacher, and a contemporary Aboriginal artist. I acknowledge and pay my respects to my family, my mob, and the Elders past and present who continue to guide my journey.

My family only discovered our Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage some years ago, and since then I’ve been learning, reconnecting, and sharing culture through art and education. Working in Aboriginal-identified roles, I’ve deepened my understanding of heritage, song, story, and art in both traditional and modern ways. Much of my work reflects that ongoing learning, painting and drawing symbols that have lived in me since childhood, now given voice through contemporary expression.

My art is a way to carry forward memory, Country, and connection. Each piece is shaped by the stories shared with me, my own lived experience, and the people I meet through teaching, markets, and community work. Whether it’s a commissioned painting, a workshop in a school, or a stall at a local market, my aim is always to help others see how culture lives in all of us, through story, learning, and care for Country.

I continue to lead programs and create spaces where people of all backgrounds can learn about Aboriginal culture in a hands-on way. My hope is that through art, we build stronger understanding, respect, and connection, keeping culture alive and shared for generations to come. ⚫🟡🔴
